There is about 1100 km of waterways in Belgium that can be used to transport goods. 80% Of all Belgian companies are located within 10 km or less of these waterways, which makes it interesting for them to transport their goods via barges. This way they can avoid road congestion, road tax and reduce the emission output caused by transportation. Today, we already transport 60.000 tons a year of waste by waterways, which is an equivalent of 5.000 trucks. By this we reduce the emission output with 150.000 tons of CO2.
